Why always win?

Why always win?
But why ever lose?
Does losing make you a failure?
Is winning any bad then?

I wished my brother luck and gently brushed his hair as he left for his Engineering BITS Entrance Test. As I saw him disappear across the lane I prayed wishfully for him to clear it since I'd seen him burning the midnight oil each time I was home. He has always been a bright kid, each time making us glisten our bellies and beam with pride! He had done exemplarily well previously in his CET and could smoothly slip into a College of his choice. But was he contented with that? Let alone contented, was he even close to happy? No. He was a sore loser. But that's what made him a desperate winner.

He wanted to get admitted into a Premier Institute which he believed could get him in a better place. He successfully cleared his BITS Entrance with a mega-margin (being an online exam the scores are available on a click) and was left assured that his efforts for the past two years would finally bore fruits now. To him, he had WON.
But as fate would have it the fruits weren't exactly the ones he had expected. His HSC results came out the next day and he hadn't scored well there. BITS considers both - Entrance marks as well as HSC. I could make out from the rancorous looks on his face that his world had come down upon him. Having scored exceptionally well in an Entrance test whose level of difficulty and IQ testing is bountiful times much as compared to the HSC exam and losing the admission for some trivial marks, he took some time to recover. So, did he Fail? Does not winning always vindicate failure?

Are failing and winning just deceptive concepts then? Are they really as contrary as we find them?

Probably it is the heavy determination to win which makes losing an impossible chance for many. I believe winning is rarely a chance phenomenon. It is an aesthetic habit. A habit that has to be coherently nurtured over and toiled upon.. for years!

Perhaps it is the brazened desire to climb the zenith that doesn't allow the soul to sanctify. Zeal to be nothing but the best. The conundrum today is that maximum people are either overestimating or underestimating themselves of which exists a small fraction who have a convergence of their thoughts and know what they are potentially capable of and ice it with near-heroic feats!

Some people end emulating on to extremes. They think turning their messenger notifications permanently off, abstaining out all social ties or getting themselves grounded is the way out. Well, might even work for a few. But if you have the fortitude, you can always dance through the jungle and yet be alongside the straight path! Moreover blaming it on luck is a Jack's charm. Luck is like a lift and hardwork, a staircase. The lift may be out of work sometimes but the staircase will always take you there. Just as Jack Canfield says in one of his numerous videos - Hit hard and toil to the last bead of your sweat,  luck will follow! The winds of sanity will get it to you. And there , there lies the debonair grace of a win, the glory of a jubilant finish ! :)
Besides, our lives are like Sine waves. There are going to be troughs as well as crests. We HAVE TO take 'em both, with a pinch of salt maybe! :) What I intend to here is not defaming the beauty of a classic Home run, but upholding the acceptance that you tried and you'll score gorgeously one day!

Concluding with one of my favourite quotes by Pat Summitt --

“Winning is fun.... Sure. But winning is not the point. Wanting to win is the point. Not giving up is the point. Never letting up is the point. Never being satisfied with what you’ve done is the point.”

Hasta la vista until my next! *e-hugs*
